The Doha Strike Exposes Qatar’s Duplicity
By: Dr. Tarik Tlaty
The Israeli strike in the heart of Doha did not only reveal the true face of Hamas; it also exposed Qatar’s duplicity, as the country continues to try to convince the world that it is a “neutral mediator,” while in reality, it is the primary financier and protector of outlawed groups.
Qatar has funded Hamas with billions of dollars under the guise of “humanitarian aid,” provided its leaders with safe havens in its luxury hotels, and given them media platforms across its networks to justify their operations against civilians. And it did not stop there: Qatar has also politically and media-wise supported the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia, seeking to destabilize Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain.
Even Morocco, which at times attempted to build bridges with Doha, was not spared from its malice, after its intelligence services discovered that Qatar was supplying weapons to the separatist Polisario Front. Can a country that arms separatists and shelters terrorists genuinely talk about “peace” and “mediation”?
The greatest irony is that Qatar hosts the largest U.S. military base in the Middle East (Al-Udeid Air Base) and relies on 5,000 Turkish soldiers on its soil to protect its regime from its Arab neighbors. Yet it claims to have been surprised by the Israeli strike! How could a military operation of this magnitude occur without the Americans or Turks being aware? The truth is clear: either Qatar knew and turned a blind eye, or it has completely lost control of its territory.
Hamas leaders have long relied on using Gaza’s children and women as human shields in the conflict, while they themselves live in comfort and security at the “negotiation headquarters,” claiming to represent Gaza in peace talks. This stark contradiction exposes their false values and places their direct responsibility before the world.
As for the UN Security Council, it added another layer of failure. Since October 7, it has applied no real pressure on Hamas to release civilian hostages, leaving the issue hostage to political bargaining, which gave Israel the justification to expand operations even beyond its borders.
Doha today is exposed: it is not a mediator, but a patron of chaos, financing terrorism, arming separatists, and hiding behind the Americans and Turks. Those who choose this path must bear the consequences before the world and their own people.
