On the Protests of Generation Z Youth

As part of its monitoring of current societal developments, and in particular the demonstrations of “Generation Z 212” youth, the Moroccan Center for Strategic Studies and Research affirms that this segment of the population represents the generation of the future, bearing legitimate aspirations and just demands for a better tomorrow.

The Center considers that the demands voiced by the youth of “Generation Z 212” are aligned with the broader demands of the Moroccan people, which call for strengthening social justice, ensuring equal opportunities, and guaranteeing the rights to education, healthcare, and a dignified life. These demands reflect a growing awareness and a strong determination among young people to actively contribute to nation-building and the safeguarding of its achievements.

In this context, the Center notes that the government’s failure to involve young people in the formulation and management of public policies has been one of the direct factors pushing this generation to voice their demands in the streets. Similarly, the government’s failure to implement the strategic vision of His Majesty the King of Morocco regarding the social protection program—considered a cornerstone for building the social state—resulted in a missed opportunity to meet the expectations of youth, particularly the “Generation Z 212” movement, as well as those of the wider Moroccan population.

Consequently, the Center:

• Condemns the use of violence by infiltrators within the peaceful “Generation Z 212” movement.
• Denounces all acts of violence and vandalism targeting public and private property.
• Holds the government fully responsible for the negative developments that have occurred and are ongoing, which undermine the reputation of the Kingdom, due to its failure to address the demands of the youth through timely listening or opening channels of dialogue, and its silence which has damaged Morocco’s image.

The Center emphasizes that a constructive response to these demands by the relevant authorities would strengthen trust among the different components of society and open new horizons for reform.

The Center calls on all parties to prioritize wisdom and foresight, and to place the supreme national interest above all else, in order to safeguard social peace and to respond to the aspirations of younger generations, who constitute a fundamental pillar of the country’s progress.
